There's alot of things broken in this game. Such as the map making, character customizing. As it just crashes your game. Should add a keyboard mapping in the settings to let us see/edit the keys to the game. Took me a minute to get the dialogue to work. For those who are interested in this game, please do note that to go through the dialogue don't use your mouse it won't work. you use WASD and ENTER for your selection. and when you try to talk to the dude for the character customization since the one in the menu is bugged out. The game will crash. You can't really build anything atm even if you go to the work bench. When you try crafting anything you just break the work bench.
However with all that being said, the game is pretty decent for it just barely coming out. It could of been a lot worse. I've seen games to where it was completely unplayable where you couldn't even load the game it would just be stuck in the menu. This game does have potential to be something a lot better. From the description it looks like you have a lot of updates you're currently working on.
As you mentioned the game is in a *very early* stage of development - I completely agree that the interface makes ZERO sense and I will be putting in work to make it far more usable for the future!
Workbenches pay off in the next update (Food and farm) as you can craft usable warehouses and stoves - where food can be stored and meals prepared! That being said the Workbench UI and controls need work too (Arrow keys and Enter is not intuitive!)
I like think of the current version as a tech demo and a prototype of what is to come! As the project progresses I want to add functionality and overhaul the User experience / graphics.
My Takeaways from this feedback
Dialog with mouse should be an option
Keyboard mappings in settings to allow viewing / setting controls
Character customization crashes
Hide Map maker and CC dev tools until they're in a more usable state
Provide walkthroughs explaining the UI in current state (If its not intuitive, it should be explained!)
I have no idea what to do in the game. everything i click gets destroyed and when i right click a person and shows me interaction options they dont even work.
The game is still in a very early stage of development - With the next Update I will provide a full walkthrough that will be maintained alongside the development of the game!
Thank you so much for this comment jb28147, I have managed to fix the issue (I was using a specific directory for testing which is not meant to be used for the Shipping version) The v0.0.1 version should function as intended!
Without your feedback I would likely not have found this issue till my next release - I have amended my release plan so this will NOT happen again!

The game just opens and then closes, it doesn't load to the menu.
